Cervia, starting point for cycle tourists
Romagna has always been the home to cycling and cyclists.
The area is morphologically perfect with the right mixture of plains, hills and mountains, together with the ideal climate and temperature.
It is also for this reason that Romagna is a region with cycling traditions capable of churning out champions such as Ercole Baldini, Arnaldo Pambianco and, more recently, the unforgettable Marco Pantani.
Cervia presents itself as the ideal town for cycling, and together with Sportur has organised a series of cycling events over the last few years.
On the first Sunday in April the town turns into the capital of cycling tourism with the organisation of the Selle Italia International Long Distance Cycling Race, also known by the more striking name of “Gran Fondo del Sale”. An initiative which is capable of attracting a pacific army of 4000 cycling enthusiasts to the Riviera. Cervia is also home to a cycling school organised by the former cyclist and current RAI television commentator Davide Cassani: an opportunity to speak about cycling, do some training on the hills in Romagna whilst enjoying the resort’s many facilities at the same time.
